For a manager that wants to play front foot football, and who has a big emphasis on playing out from the back, and likes to play through central areas this level of availability is massively detrimental.

Pressing starts from the front, and tempo dictation and build up starts from the back. The longer it takes to leave your backline, the fewer chances you create up top.

Due to him being Dutch and managing at Ajax, he is thought of as a descendent of Cruyff, and have a focus on on the ball ability and linkup. But that isn't the case, whilst he does have principles on the ball and patterns that he likes to see from his teams. He mainly focuses on shape and space manipulation.

That is so incredibly difficult to manipulate and utilise when you have to alter your shape weekly due to personnel.

People will bring up the likes of Ange Postecoglu when it comes to a consistent style of play. Whilst that argument has merit, it doesn't tell the full truth. Ange has a squad with similar profiles, there are few specialists in his side, his team has been built up by a proper structure and almost transcends the manager.

There were often times when you'd look at players signed under Conte and Mourinho, and it would be confusing, they weren't their type of player, because they weren't and these managerial powerhouses struggled. That squad was built for someone like Ange, who has similar principles to Poch, who his team nicely resembles.

If they have a squad issue and have to replace Bentancur with Lo Celso, or Bissouma with Hojbjerg do you think that effects them too much? No, no it doesn't partly due to a refined style, but mostly because they are the same profile of player.

Now look at United, in the same position and swap Casemiro with Eriksen, or Mainoo with McTominay. Their profiles are incredibly different, effecting the style. This is something Ineos will need to address. The squad players need to be of similar profiles to the starters. You can't play the same with Martial up top as you can Hojlund.
