On this day, 6 May 1839, #Melbourne founding father, John Batman, died at his residence on Batman’s Hill (now the site of Southern Cross Station), aged thirty-nine years. His condition had deteriorated severely in the months leading up to May.

It’s heartbreaking to think how many of the buildings in this 1910 photo—once lining Bourke Street with such intricate facades & proud Victorian detail—have been lost. Each demolition erased layers of stories, its rhythm & charm. Today we feel the absence of the city’s character.

@Jonathan_Nolan_ It’s not completed yet but so far it’s awful. Just as awful as all the graffiti/tagging on so many beautiful heritage buildings. I will reserve final judgement until it’s complete but it’s soulless.

DAY 2 .. Unique to #Melbourne, @FedSquare opened on 26 Oct 2002. The main square is paved in 470,000 ochre-coloured sandstone blocks from Western #Australia. Fearless Girl was unveiled on 8 Mar 2019, a symbol of gender equality and female empowerment.
