“The way you make people resilient is by exposing them to things that they’re afraid of and make them uncomfortable…if you protect them from everything that is “sharp”, you make them dull and stupid..and narcissistic.”
@Martyupnorth Also, someone comments that they should be trained in martial arts…I couldn’t agree more, but cops aren’t required to do this up here in Canada, but if they were, it would require consistent M.A. training. Can’t expect to learn it once when you start and never practice
@Martyupnorth The problem with police in the US is that you need so many of them given your high and ever growing population and the amount of guns and mental health issues.
If you’re going to have rigorous hiring standards and detailed training, it would cost the taxpayer a lot more….
How many Leafs fans shit their pants when the Sportsnet ticker, which is racing through its news headlines, says that the #MapleLeafs signed COLE MCWARD.
Maybe it’s just me, but I see a different name when I catch a glance at it…
I've been pondering this since my comments in real time to the trades. Let me make sure I've got this straight:
- Moved Nurse and his contract to SJS for Mukhamadullin and Zach Sharp
- Moved out a 3rd in 2028 for Devon Levi and a 2028 7th
- Signed Ryan Shea to 5x$4M. (This is a sneaky good get)
- Re-signed Kasperi Kapanen to 1x$2.4M (slight overpay maybe, but I think that's ok given the other moves in context, term is absolutely correct)
- Re-signed Max Jones 1x$850k
- Signed Eduards Tralmaks 1 year 2-way $850K out of europe.
- Signed Frederik Anderson 1 year, $1M (possible up to $2.8M with bonuses, very good structure for the team with his injury history)
- Signed Mathieu Joeseph 1x$1M.
23 man roster, no retention spots used, and still $6.5M left to play with, absent any more subtractions, additions or sending people out to the minors.
In addition they have QO's out to Stastney, Dach, Jarventie (TBD), and Owen Michaels.
Every single one of these moves fills a need, moves money, gains assets or otherwise seems like a move a smart team would make, the only one even remotely risky is Kapanen, and he earned that paycheque for his playoffs alone. That's a risk I'd also take if I was in the chair.
Stan Bowman takes a lot of shit around here (including occasionally from me) but it would be absolutely obtuse of me to say Stan did anything but cook today. Incredibly tidy, methodical work, I am super impressed, and I rarely am impressed these days.
I'm not sure there's a team that did better but the Oilers would be very near the top of the "W column" for free agent frenzy. Unbelievable.
@Kgill39 And they seemed to have made the team better, so all of that worry was for nothing.
Posting on here how frustrated you are that the team hasn’t done anything doesn’t make you a better fan than people who don’t post that stuff.
Go do something else for a couple hours, relax 😎
@Kgill39 No, but you have more repeated posts than any other single person who shows up on my timeline.
I see a lot of people in your replies who seem concerned for you, trying to help you understand that as much as we all love the team, life will go on if they sh!t the bed. ✌🏼
@OILfanincowtown@Stucco_Here Sorry, but saying that you’re eating crow means next to nothing.
Free agency was open for an hour and you were basically giving up.
I’m willing to bet that the Leafs regret signing Bobrovsky…but they always need to rush to quiet their fanbase.
And never past the first round
Just thinking back to last summer when the #LetsGoOilers signed Josh Samanski and Oiler fans were all freaking out asking “who?!??!”
And
“Once again, Stan Bowman sucks.”
And now we all love Samanski.
So please, relax ☺️
