The US buildout to @MZJacobson's 4,545GW of 100% WWS will look like this. We have 7% online now & need to reach 50% by 2030 to meet the 1.5C Paris climate goals. This is more than the #AmericanJobsPlan but is required to effectively #ActonClimate. #ClimateSolutions
ICE vehicles waste a whopping 80% of energy in their fuel.
EVs are propelled by entirely different mechanisms. Energy enters the vehicle as electricity, which directly powers the drivetrain: EVs need not convert one form of energy to another resulting in much higher efficiency.
And a 4th reminder that a transition to 100% WindWaterSolar reduces the annual total tonnes of mining in the world by >84% despite the need for precious metals, which are a trivial component of total mining tonnage.

Just look at what happened with solar investment - it’s astonishing.
Solar has seen the most rapid investment growth, soaring from $142 billion in 2015 to a projected $441 billion this year.
Solar and wind were a combined 91% of utility-scale generation additions from January-May 2025.
FERC data show solar and wind are 113 GW and gas 6 GW of high probability utility-scale capacity additions by May 2028.
Coal drops 24.9 GW and oil 1.9 GW.

Much like the agriculture industry, the timber and paper industries run on steam-based processes for preparing wood products, meaning they're perfect candidates to use #geothermal heat. 🌲
Currently, the timber and paper industries burn oil, gas, and biomass, typically in the form of waste wood products, to heat boilers and produce steam for drying. If wood and paper processing companies were to switch from these sources to geothermal heat, they'd drastically cut their emissions, while insulating themselves from price volatility. 📄
Enter New Zealand’s Kawerau cluster, the world’s largest wood processing facility and a poster child for how this should work. In 2021, Oji Fibre Solutions ditched coal for geothermal in one of their boilers, saving $4 million in energy costs while keeping 10,000-28,000 tonnes of CO2 out of the atmosphere. Not a bad trade-off. 💰
Essity’s tissue paper plant tapped into the same geothermal steam from the Kawerau wood processing for its drying needs, invested $20 million in 2024, and cut CO2 emissions by 66%. 🧻
Geothermal heat works for industrial processes. Kawerau proved it —now the race is on to see how fast we can scale. Let's go! 🔥

The Chinese EV transition goes beyond just vehicles 🇨🇳🚗⚡️
In the last 12 months China built
~ 1.2 million public EV charge points (+38%)
~ 4.6 million private charge points (+59%)
China now has 16.7 million total charge points!
For perspective: Germany has ~1 million
Thanks to geothermal’s abundant and ubiquitous #heat, the energy source has the potential to dramatically change the way industrial companies produce the things that make the world go round. 🌏
The industrial sector produces 23% of all carbon emissions in the US. A lot of that comes from burning fuel for heat. Recently, there have been efforts to electrify industrial process heat to eliminate these emissions, efforts that if successful would strain an already overloaded grid, and simply switch the source of emissions from the industrial site to nearby power plants. Enter #geothermal. 🔥
A whopping 50% of global energy demand is heat. Heat for buildings, industrial and agricultural processes. And guess what geothermal is? It's heat. Seems obvious right?
The IEA, in collaboration with Project InnerSpace in the "Future of Geothermal Energy" report, found that 35% of industrial heat demand is for temperatures below 200°C. That amount of geothermal resource exists at relatively shallow depths in most places in the world - making it low hanging fruit to power industrial processes and progress. 🍒
*Abundant, around-the-clock heat
*Heat generated at or near the point of use
*Low and predictable operating costs
*Low to no emissions

New Mexico isn't just breaking bad—it's breaking energy records. Adopting geothermal power and cooling doesn't just supercharge energy efficiency; it completely rewrites the playbook for how business gets done.
Want to build a data center? Here's why NM might be your Land of Enchantment: Within 5 km of the surface is 163 gigawatts of power potential. That's 15 times the installed power capacity of 2023.
Want to make some magic happen on the policy front? Here are some ideas: If the New Mexican government implemented a geothermal energy goal of 5GW, it could create (in addition to 5GW of clean firm power):
-2,000 construction jobs;
-750 indirect and induced jobs;
-and more than 125 operations and maintenance jobs.
There more! Nearly all of New Mexico's subsurface meets the conditions to use low- to medium-geothermal temperatures for direct-use applications. Implementation would give industries like dairy processing, chemical production, and others the opportunity to use ubiquitous, abundant, underground energy—and help their bottom line.
