The King Center remembers the Woolworth Sit-In, Jackson, Mississippi. #OTD in 1963, three young activists staged a sit-in at the whites-only Woolworth’s counter in downtown Jackson-an act met with brutal violence and national attention. Their courage, captured in a defining moment of the Civil Rights Movement, helped pave the way toward the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. #WoolworthSitIn #HistoryMatters #Nonviolence365 #TheKingCenter
Wow, Listen to Dr. Joy DeGruy speak as breaks down the history of #lynchings in America.
Lynchings in #America occured after slavery because they were a reaction to White Fear of what those who were enslaved would do after they were free. She also says due to white fear the white vigilante group The #KKK was born. In the video she also says… They don’t wear hoods anymore. They wear suits.

Some good news today.
South Carolina has chosen NOT to move forward with gerrymandering for the time being.
AND a court has blocked Alabama’s gerrymander.
The fight continues. But these small victories are important.
Keep the faith.
Spelman College just made history — the Class of 2026 has seven valedictorians.
Seven brilliant, beautiful Black women standing at the top of their class. This is what excellence looks like when Black women are given the space to shine.
Huge congratulations to these trailblazers and the entire Spelman family. Y’all did that! 👏🏽👏🏽
Yes, the Republicans will still lose the midterms. Today’s decision in Virginia was just a question of by how much. I know math is hard for low IQ Republicans, but Trump lost 40 seats in his first midterm, and he’s more unpopular today because he destroyed the economy. So whether he loses by 40 seats or 30 seats, a loss is a loss. His tariffs, price-raising war, and endless corruption are getting cooked next year whether they like it or not. Enjoy!
“If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you". Wise words that still ring true today spoken by an upstanding Texan, LBJ in 1964… let it sink in that it’s now 2026.
This was not that long ago. And anti-Black #racism persists in the United States and abroad. Please:
1. Stop denying racism exists.
2. Be educated on racism as an issue of prejudice, abuse of power, and manipulation of privilege.
3. Commit to being informed on systemic issues.
4. Pay attention to those who say they are being violated by systemic racism/discrimination.
5. Care.
6. Study the global and national impact of racism and white supremacy.
7. Honestly examine systems infiltrated by racist ideals [Some of those systems: Healthcare, education, criminal ‘justice’ (school to prison pipeline, prison industrial complex), housing, etc.].
8. Study and quote Dr. MLK, Jr. to facilitate justice and true peace, NOT to maintain order as a form of false peace. Injustice is never in order.
9. Be open to understanding the “interconnectedness” of humanity. Think higher than 1 group “winning.” How can humanity win?
10. Decide on one system impacted by racism that you will work to change. Work on it.
11. Don’t be a racist. Give due spiritual, emotional, mental, and practical diligence to not being a vessel for hate, bigotry and racism.
12. Choose Nonviolence. Kingian Nonviolence not merely a tactic, but a love-centered way of living, with principles and steps that help create a more just, humane, peaceful world.

Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach.
The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.
