With over 3 billion gamers worldwide, 1/3rds of the gaming population strive to excel in competitive gaming. The numbers show only 15,000 of these gamers go on to become professional e-sports players (as of 2024).

This issue exists because modern games are designed as products to be purchased and consumed. Gamers pay to play, and very few are ever paid to play. The structure is designed to extract both effort and money from users. The current model in gaming is fundamentally extractive.

While the play-to-earn model attempted to shift incentives, it failed to build sustainable ecosystems. In many cases, the incentive mechanism became the product itself - often in the form of tokens. Once the token price fell, both interest and utility collapsed. What gaming truly needs is a sustainable and accessible way to monetize skill - not time or hype.
