Michelle Moran, 63, of Bebington, Wirral, has been banned from keeping animals for life after throwing her Jack Russell terrier Gypsy into a boating lake at Gautby Road in Birkenhead to drown.

Moran claimed she believed Gypsy had cancer and tumours and could not afford veterinary euthanasia, but none of her alleged conditions were confirmed by any veterinary diagnosis.

Gypsy's body was recovered from the lake by a member of the public on September 29 last year.

When examined, the dog weighed just 3.7 kilograms and scored two out of nine on a body condition score, indicating severe malnourishment. Her mouth and nose were bloodied.

Veterinary evidence confirmed the surrounding concrete wall would have made it almost impossible for a small or weakened dog to escape the water.

Moran pleaded guilty to two offences under the Animal Welfare Act and received a 17-week suspended sentence, a lifetime animal ban, a curfew, and rehabilitation requirements. The RSPCA described Gypsy's death as horrendous and called Moran's actions extremely callous.

🚨NEW: Three teenage boys who filmed themselves raping two teenage girls in separate attacks in Fordingbridge have all been spared jail by judge Nicholas Rowland. They then sent the video around to multiple people.

Judge Nicholas said the boys were "very young, had low intelligence and had a limited understanding of consent."

One of the victims told the court "All I want to do is die, I no longer have fear for when that comes."

She described how she felt “numb” and was shaking while the boys were “laughing and recording what happened” over the 90-minute ordeal.

Videos of the incident were later sent around and other people made jokes about the girl and she received messages calling her a "s**g."

🇬🇧 Judge Nicholas Rowland, who spared a teenage traveller rape gang from detention, is facing growing criticism over a record of lenient sentencing.

Rowland previously gave a convicted sex offender a community order after extreme pornography depicting bestiality was found on his phone, despite a prior suspended sentence for attempting sexual communication with a child.

He also jailed a drugged driver for just 21 months after he killed newlywed cyclist Joe Burton while high on marijuana and speeding.

Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said the judge “should be fired” after the teenage rapists avoided detention despite filming parts of their attacks.
