This day in 1942, American sailor Doris Miller, a cook of the US Navy, is awarded the Navy Cross for firing anti-aircraft guns during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. He was the first black American to be awarded the Navy Cross. Miller was KIA in November 1943. #WW2
