Teachers are not required to bring their own drinking water from home; while it is certainly common practice to bring refreshments to school, it is not expected of teachers. Furthermore, I firmly reject the unprofessional remarks regarding my background and my competence, and I expect respectful conduct in the future.

In Eritrea, teachers force first-grade children in primary school to bring a water bottle from home. The bottles must be left in the staffroom. Anyone who does not bring a bottle is not allowed into the classroom. The school management and the government allowed this rule. The children have a lot of fear and feel a lot of pressure. In addition, the government punishes the children if they are late. This happens, for example, if they miss the raising of the flag or do not sing the national anthem.

Yes, of course you see no problem with it—because for the people living there, it isn’t normal; yet every day—in exactly the way Robert uses it—people die there, and that, too, is normal. It is sad—as is the fact that they support the government and see no problem with this—that pupils and schoolchildren, and even young children, have to cover long distances and haul water to carry it from home to the staff room.
