@LeK3NDR1X@ititakaRe9 a lot of the JP folks i've spoken to that aren't flat out livid agree that they'd like for better overseas distribution, but from their perspective they feel like they're bearing all the risks in that scenario. They couldn't care less if you pirate the works-
@kyomu_utsuro it's not like japanese people don't understand that situations can cause people to take extreme measures, I've seen replies where japanese people are sympathetic to people who can't legally access it, but they just want people to do it on the sly
@kyomu_utsuro japanese sentiment towards people who brag about it is mostly: "well it's not fair to anyone who actually pays the money isn't it?", then the argument gets boiled over after pirates start justifying it

@LeK3NDR1X@ititakaRe9 creators end up losing both potential revenue and in some cases where publishers are on the weaker side, they end up being able to pay the creators less as a consequence
@LeK3NDR1X@ititakaRe9 and therefore instead of the western ideology of "oh there's demand there because people are going out of their way to pirate it!", they go "well since they're already getting it for free, then why should we risk distributing it?"
@eboyiscream@tabinekosun@Mashiro_yuh honestly the first more pressing issue to address in this issue isn't even piracy, it's the god damn payment processors trying to dictate what I can and can't buy from people. It's probably the 1 thing stopping more japanese games from releasing on steam
@eboyiscream@tabinekosun@Mashiro_yuh sorry for the misunderstanding here, I wasn't talking about you specifically here but the general argument vocal people end up telling japanese people in defense of why they pirate. I 100% agree with you here, and I think japanese people do too to an extent.
@eboyiscream@tabinekosun@Mashiro_yuh you can admit that piracy is for the most part a service issue, but that doesn't mean you get to pirate everything. Piracy is still illegal anyways, but most people don't care if you pirate it then just shut up about it. It's not like pirating something is a medal of honor.
@eboyiscream@tabinekosun@Mashiro_yuh I said this exact thing to a japanese person and for the most part they're pretty chill. Most sentiment is "it doesn't matter to us if you're just doing on the sly". I mean it's not like they're wrong for saying you shouldn't justify piracy.

@eboyiscream@tabinekosun@Mashiro_yuh funnily enough a lot of japanese people i've seen actually hold the sentiment of "i'd be nice if overseas and japan also had a central service for content" the argument just gets bogged down to the vocal minority being rude to eachother most of the time
@eboyiscream@tabinekosun@Mashiro_yuh yeah true, but japanese people don't really take issue at the piracy itself, they take issue at the "pride" people take when pirating. From their standpoint, it's unfair for people to pay for shit overseas or domestically then someone comes along bragging about getting it free
@eboyiscream@tabinekosun@Mashiro_yuh that's the thing though, we know that it can mean potential customers, but for japanese people, the only experience they have with pirating was when an industry almost collapsed because of it
