@dak16c I feel like while that might have been their answer in the exit polls, it might not accurately reflect the true decision making process of a lot of Evangelicals.
@BrookeBt17e A lot of times when individuals donate their money they probably don't know who exactly that money is going to. It felt like a just cause for them and felt no suspicion at the time
@led16g In the end the whole election is just a marketing campaign. In this case Trump found it beneficial to use the slogan of one of the most beloved Republican presidents of all time. Nothing wrong with that, just not super creative
@SamanthaStofsky It just surprises me that of all the other republican primary candidates, they managed to pick Trump, when there were clearly other candidates who most aligned with their views
@TreysternREL I think just his initial response, the way he danced around the question, and his half-baked answer on the followup showed he was using religion to play those people. He hardly believes what comes out of his mouth most times
I am interested to see what this lecture would look like maybe ten years from now when we are able to gather more facts on the entirety of the election and reflect on it. #REL2121S18
And if moral and religious character is important to evangelicals, why is it that Hillary Clinton, someone who is openly Methodist, is chastised and made to seem like the anti-christ? #REL2121S18
If evangelicals praise individual experience, can we really discount trump’s response to the question of whether or not he has asked for forgiveness? #REL2121S18
@scottshultzFSU I feel like the emotional presence definitely made an impact, but maybe not as much as the movement westward which helped spread ideas and emotion
Can someone help explain the connection between utopian societies and sexuality. I get that it's a commonality between them but I just don't get why it was of such importance? #REL2121S18
@LoganLoveLTL16b It's my guess that they saw Muslims as more barbaric. Only because we see many instances of Europeans cooperating with Natives, yet there is hardly any evidence to suggest cooperation with Muslims, as they were practically competing in the same space as Europeans
@fsusyd From what I understand, most of the ideology is still there (what happens post-mortem, the process of becoming like gods, large families), as well as many practices, though things like polygamous marriage are obviously not around any longer
@fsusyd While I agree that they both are similar in that they created religions based on their personal beliefs, I think Humphrey had done it with self-interest in mind. Right from the get-go he believed he was "perfect." Why shouldn't he lead his own religion #REL2121S18
So the Indians co-opted elements of Christianity (Hell), and deemed it a place of eternal suffering reserved for those who accomodated the whites and adopted their religion? 🧐 #REL2121S18
Why is it that people can say that "ministers who had not experienced the New Birth were "pharisees" and "blind Guides" incapable of leading their people to salvation?" Do they just make these things up or are they interpreting the Bible this way #REL2121S18
