“In the bustling city of NY, there are such quiet places,” shares Lin in a 5-Star Google Review. "The walk is full of ritual...passing President Roosevelt...the blank spaces surrounded by the Manhattan skyline. LouisKahn seems to have magnified architecture into the city itself—”
Sharing from @NYTimes: “...'Out of Silence,’ a free, site-specific work by the Finnish sound artist Hans Rosenström... The 15-minute piece was inspired by the composer Arvo Pärt and features the voices of the Estonian ensemble Vox Clamantis. Soak it in through June 21”. 🌳
So many wonderful finds on Roosevelt Island. “The Girl Puzzle” is a stellar art installation by Amanda Matthews that honors Vellie Bly, investigative reporter and activist.
The Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Show will not be visible from Roosevelt Island this year and is not a viewing location. As a result, RIOC will not be running a ticket lottery or sending out any communications regarding a ticketed 4th of July event to the community.
See how The Room came together! ✨
Louis Kahn was appointed to design The Park in 1973 to commemorate the life and work of President Roosevelt. To bring his design to life we brought in 190 individual stones that make up The Room. 70 stones measure 6'x6'x12' and weigh 36 tons!
New Yorkers are being asked to weigh in on what should be done with the original 50-year-old Roosevelt Island Tramway cars. @KristieKNews reports. https://t.co/H94ZNdP6Ts
Thank you for joining RIOC, @Leitner_Poma, and RIHS in celebrating the 50th Tramiversary today!
50 years ago, 2 red cabins lifted off over the East River for the first time. Today, we celebrated them with our warm community (and cake too). Thanks to everyone who joined us!

From Gina Pollara, the architect responsible for building #4FreedomsPark: "The only thing that I’ve ever been able to find that Kahn said specifically about the design is from a lecture [@PrattInstitute]...he said, I had this idea that the memorial should be a room and a garden."
Thank you, #ILoveMyParkDay volunteers! 💙
Every first Saturday of May we welcome volunteers to help get The Park ready for summer. Volunteers prepared Adirondack chairs and took care of the landscape. They are the best!
+ Some unexpected volunteers! 🦆

The American experiment began by rejecting a crown.
This Presidents Day, I encourage our leaders to reflect on what it means to be a public servant.
Elected by the people, for the people. For ALL the people.
Designed by architect Louis I. Kahn with a sculpture by Jo Davidson, the park derives its name from Roosevelt’s historic “Four Freedoms” speech, in which he described his vision: freedom of speech and expression, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear.
The Room @ Four Freedoms Park 🌿🗽
By noon, the park was almost empty — even in the heat, it felt calm, cool, and peaceful ✨. We walked all the way to The Room, snapped some photos 📸, and enjoyed watching seaplanes glide in for landing over the water ✈️🌊.
The next destination was Intrepid Museum
