本日9月12日(土)は開館日です。霧雨が降っています。先週、愛媛新聞文化欄に展覧会紹介の記事が、大きく掲載されました👏👏 「華宵のまなざしをたどる展　ーひとりの画家の内なる風景ー」は、今日を入れて、あと7日間となりました。ぜひお見逃しなく。この記事が掲載されたのは9月9日、重陽の節句の日でした。　　　　　　　「重陽の節句」は桃の節句や端午の節句、七夕などと並ぶ五節句のひとつで、「菊の節句」とも呼ばれます。古く中国では、縁起のよい「陽」の数とされた奇数。その中でも最も大きな「9」が重なる9月9日に、長寿や無病息災を願ったのが始まりといわれています。日本では平安時代から宮中行事として行われ、菊を眺めたり、菊酒をいただいたりして長寿を願いました。また、前夜に菊の花を綿で覆い、翌朝、露と香りを含んだ綿で身体をぬぐう「菊の被綿（きせわた）」という優雅な風習も。今では少し馴染みの薄い節句ですが、華宵の描いた菊を見ると、秋の訪れを感じますね。　　　　　　　　　明日も開館します。 9月19日は「哲学カフェ＠カフェ・カショー」テーマは「繰り返し」です。ぜひご参加くださいませ。 Today, Saturday, September 12, the museum is open. A light misty rain is falling this morning. Last week, a large article introducing our current exhibition appeared in the culture section of the Ehime Shimbun newspaper. 👏👏 “Tracing Kasho’s Gaze: The Inner Landscape of an Artist” now has only seven opening days remaining, including today. We hope you won’t miss the chance to see it. The newspaper article happened to appear on September 9, the day of Chōyō no Sekku, the Chrysanthemum Festival. Chōyō no Sekku is one of Japan’s five traditional seasonal festivals, along with the Peach Festival, Boys’ Day, and Tanabata. It is also known as the “Chrysanthemum Festival.” In ancient China, odd numbers were considered auspicious “yang” numbers. September 9, when the highest single-digit yang number, nine, occurs twice, became a day for wishing for health and longevity. The custom was introduced to Japan and, from the Heian period onward, was celebrated at the Imperial Court. People admired chrysanthemums and drank sake infused with chrysanthemum petals, wishing for long and healthy lives. There was also an elegant custom called kisewata: chrysanthemums were covered with cotton on the evening before the festival, and the following morning the dew- and fragrance-filled cotton was used to gently wipe the body. Although Chōyō no Sekku is less familiar to us today, Kasho’s chrysanthemums seem to quietly herald the arrival of autumn. The museum will also be open tomorrow.
