Sedih banget pas baca kabar duka dari Malaysia kemarin... Ada remaja yang melompat dari gedung, dan sebelum pergi dia sempat upload video perpisahan berjudul "the last time" di youtube.
"Because I don’t want this end too quick, at least I can still interact with you guys."

Today, 14 November is the death anniversary of the great German mathematician, philosopher, scientist, and diplomat Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz.
From the moment Leibniz published his work on calculus, Newton started a campaign to discredit him, claiming that Leibniz had copied Newton’s ideas, which were published earlier. Later, English patriotism led the government and many scholars to support Newton. As the English-speaking world grew more influential, people widely accepted Newton as the only creator of calculus.
However, modern scholars now agree that both Newton and Leibniz developed calculus independently, both within and outside the English-speaking world.
A milestone in math and AI collaboration
Ernest Ryu, a professor at Seoul National University, just used ChatGPT to solve an open problem in convex optimization.
The problem had resisted proof for years. It’s about the Nesterov ODE, a continuous version of one of the most powerful acceleration methods in optimization.
ChatGPT didn’t instantly find the solution.
It took a deeply interactive process across three days and roughly twelve hours of exploration. About 80% of the generated arguments were wrong, but the remaining 20% contained genuinely new insights, including the key idea that led to the final proof.
Ryu described ChatGPT’s contribution as
•Producing the final proof argument
•Accelerating exploration by ruling out dead ends rapidly
The result is now strong enough for publication in a respected optimization journal.
This marks something extraordinary. AI has moved from assisting to co-discovering in advanced mathematics.
ChatGPT didn’t just compute. It reasoned, proposed, refined, and collaborated, under expert guidance, to close an open question.
Human intuition plus machine exploration is becoming a new kind of research engine.
The era of AI-augmented discovery has truly begun.
