An unexpectedly awesome thing to appreciate while you watch the Masters this afternoon
13 years ago, my brother @cmick6 started a Masters pool with his office buddies to help kids with Type-1 diabetes (his son Max was diagnosed T1D at age 3)
The first year he donated $1,000
This year he donated $225,000
It's the Weirdest, Wildest, Most Lucrative (and Charitable) Masters Pool on the Planet
In all, he's donated >$800k, and that'll be well over a million next year
His pool helps send T1D kids to a life-changing summer camp every year
A lot of little brothers are proud of their older brothers, and I'm proud of both of mine. I want to take this moment to share my pride in Chris, who through humor and force of will has grown his charity pool into the number one source of funding for @CampHoMitaKoda
In his update this morning, he wrote about this week's total solar eclipse.
And how it occurred to him that the happiness and joy he felt is the kind of bliss that comes from unexpectedly awesome moments. Moments that puts things in perspective.
Chris wrote:
When my son Max was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age 3 more than a decade ago, my wife and I didn’t know a thing about the disease. We didn’t know that getting it was totally random, and not something any of us did to cause it. We didn’t know then, but we quickly found out, it would require constant vigilance to monitor blood sugar levels now moving like a Richter scale throughout the day. Our life started to revolve around blood sugar readings and dozens of daily finger pricks and needle injections and anxiety and stress and wondering if Max would feel like a normal kid and grow up to be just as healthy and active as any other.
Well, Max is 16 now. He’s thriving.
At the end of the update, he wrote:
No matter what you’re capable of giving, your acts of kindness have converged into an outsized force for good. With your support, we are shedding light into the lives of children who so desperately need to see they are not alone in this universe.
Quite literally, your participation has helped hundreds of kids with Type 1 Diabetes have an awakening of perspective as profound as any total solar eclipse.
Thank you.
With eternal gratitude,
Chris Mikolay
M4Max creator and Max’ proud father

THANK YOU TO CHRIS, HIS WIFE LAURA, AND EVERY GENEROUS PARTICIPANT...in the weirdest, wildest, most lucrative (and charitable) Masters pool on the planet
This video hit me hard...
Legendary basketball coach John Wooden shares a poem that he has framed in his home.
"A careful man I must always be, a little fellow follows me."
It offers a powerful reminder for all of us:
Actions, not words, are what matter in the end.
There is always someone watching and learning from your actions.
Your actions create ripples in the world.
Whether it's your little fellow, a neighbor, a partner, a friend, or an enemy: Someone is always watching.
The best parenting, relationship, and life advice:
Make a list of the values you want to see others embrace, then go out and embody those yourself.
You change the world by first changing yourself.
"I must be careful as I go, through summer’s sun and winter’s snow, because I am building for the years to be, this little chap who follows me."
Hudson boys XC with the win today at the Jackson invitational!!! With 38 points we beat state ranked #3 Jackson and #24 GlenOak. Sophomore Crew McDaniel won the race! Lots more PRs today for the boys! #rollhud#explorerpride
"Every minute someone leaves this world behind. Age has nothing to do with it. We are all in "the line" without knowing it. We never know how many people are before us. We can not move to the back of the line. We can not step out of the line. We can not avoid the line.
So while we wait in line:
Make moments count.
Make priorities.
Make the time.
Make your gifts known.
Make a nobody feel like a somebody.
Make your voice heard.
Make the small things big.
Make someone smile.
Make the change.
Make love.
Make up.
Make peace.
Make sure to tell your people they are loved.
Make sure to have no regrets.
Make sure you are ready…”
