The way to win at capitalism is to focus on what it actually does (make customers' lives better) rather than the socialist caricature of it (squeeze every penny out of them). The latter gets you 2x returns at best, whereas making new things for people can get you 10x.
I‘ll stop posting timelapses of the aurora from the @Space_Station when I’m tired of looking at them . . . so basically never! Another unforgettable display of this ethereal phenomenon as it danced beneath us last night, this one even more special as it was shared with @astro_anil, as he witnessed it for the first time with such intensity. The red wavelengths (above the green) were particularly bright in this pass.

Phase Change Energy
It is intuitive that you have to put energy into water to warm it up, and you have to put energy into ice to warm it up, and you have to put energy into steam to heat it up.
But what isn’t so intuitive is that you have to put a lot of energy into ice that is -0.1°C to turn it into water that is +0.1°C, and you have to put an enormous amount of energy into water at 99.9°C to turn it into steam at 100.1°C.
This is why we put ice in drinks, ice will absorb a lot of energy before the temperature rises and this is why it keeps your drink cold.
It takes the same amount of energy to turn ice from -0.1°C to water at 0.1°C as it takes to get from 0.1°C to 81°C.
Evaporation (or boiling) is even more extreme.
It takes the same amount of energy to turn water into steam as it would take to raise the temperature by 595°C (if that were possible).
This is why you can boil a pan of water and it will stay at exactly 100°C and will keep most of its mass as water (not steam), long enough to boil some food. A large amount of energy is all going into evaporating some tiny mass of water.
Also, ice heats up faster than steam, and steam heats up faster than water.
H2O is weird stuff.
These two big flat spots in the thermophysical properties of H2O are what keep our planet locked in such a stable thermodynamic regime long enough (4.5 billion years), for complex life to emerge.
If either of these flat spots were a lot less wide, we wouldn’t be here today.
In 1964 C. P. Willans wrote down a single closed-form expression that returns the n-th prime number exactly. The formula is perfectly exact — and gloriously useless to compute — but it settles a quiet question: yes, such a formula exists.
@robprogressive Yeah, keep ignoring opportunity cost, it doesn't exist anyway in the formula we're using and we lack imagination to come up with a new one. Also tax rules never change, cross my heart.
Fortunately reality will not care for your flawed assumptions and they won't get rewarded.
