Earlier this year we got scammed!
It’s a bummer that it happened, but it did.
We had a sales rep apply with us and he talked the talk. He sent us proof of his past performance at other companies, clearly had experience, and negotiated a signing bonus.
I thought I had vetted him well. I noticed we had a mutual friend and this mutual, friend whom I respect and trust, spoke very highly of Malik.
Malik showed up, snagged his signing bonus, and hopped on a plane the next day.
Since then, I’ve been messaging friends of his online trying to track him down. Apparently, he has stolen a lot of money from friends and strangers.
He ruined a really good thing. We no longer offer signing bonuses.
We are much smarter now and have better onboarding systems. We were excited because Malik is a really talented salesman and has actually done really well at past companies. He could have taken us to new heights.
In the past few years he has turned to scamming and has actually scammed several other operators across the US. We recently figured that out when a few of us were chatting in a Facebook group.
So, learn from my mistakes.
- Don’t do signing bonuses in cash
- Get 2 forms of ID from employees and contractors because people will give you a fake license
- Make sure their payroll info comes in clean and clears your process. Ours stayed at pending until he was gone.
Luckily it was only a few grand and it’s all behind us now. His crew nearly stole $30k from another larger company in Arizona.
If you know Malik Hunt or know where he is, there are several county sheriff’s offices that are extremely interested in getting to know him!

How did we get 465 Google reviews with nearly a 5 Star rating in 24 months?!
Easy. Systems.
1- We provide and excellent service. Can't skimp on this part.
2- Great customer service experience. Before every service our tech arrives, greets the customer, and asks if there are any special areas we need to pay attention to. After the service, the tech recaps the service and asks if there is anything else that can be done. If there is, he gets it done.
3- Each technician has business cards like the one shown below. He states "If you feel that you got a 5 star service, we would love to hear about on Google. If you leave a 5 star review and mention my name, my boss gives me a $10 tip at no cost to you!"
Customers get to do two good deeds at once. They support a local business with a good review and they effectively tip our techs $10.
Our techs fight hard to get every review they can, customers are happy to support, and we pay our techs big bonuses every month for these reviews. After all, these reviews are likely worth more than $10 in the long run.
How do we compare to our market? Our largest competitor has been around for 12 years and they have 322 reviews at 4.7 average. As soon as we passed them, our phone volume increased. Google reviews matter.
This can be copied and used in any industry. It doesn't have to be pushy. People are happy to help and often don't realize what a Google review can do for a company.
