Today we remember Constable Gerald Mills, a member of Whitchurch Township Police. He was killed in the line of duty by an out of control vehicle on May 29, 1968. Constable Mills was 33 years old and was survived by his wife and then 3 year old daughter. Our #HeroesInLife.
Tonight is going to be historic.
We are celebrating 30 years of Police Appreciation Night with a sold-out crowd in #Vaughan this evening.
Thank you to our generous sponsors, donors and community partners who continue to support victims of crime and tragic circumstance in #YorkRegion through our friends at @vsyorkregion and @yorkregionccs.
And a huge thanks to our outstanding members who are receiving awards this evening. Your hard work and dedication have made #YorkRegion more safe and secure.

I wanted to be a police officer since I was a little kid, but back then I didn't understand the challenges that come with the job.
Now that I do, I appreciate the dedication, compassion and courage of every first responder more than ever.
Thanks to each and every one of you.

Mitch Marner isn't the only one putting up assists in Toronto.
Collaboration between police services in the GTA is essential to solving and preventing violent crimes.

Fifty years ago, Joy Dennison paved the way for hundreds of women in policing at @YRP when she became our very first.
At 27, Constable Dennison had already worked for @TorontoPolice for 10 years when she took the job in #YorkRegion. She was first assigned to the Youth Bureau, but would eventually work on patrol, in criminal investigations and identifying impaired drivers as a breath technician.

On #PinkShirtDay, @YRP helped start the chat around bullying, promoting respect and compassion in schools, homes, workplaces and online.
Today, it's a pink shirt. But tomorrow and every day, let's ask ourselves how we can make #YorkRegion a kinder, safer place.

Congratulations Canada! I do have to also mention that Jordan Binnington was a brick wall in net (and grew up in Richmond Hill) and the winning goal by Connor Mc David (born in Richmond Hill). I’m doubly proud tonight! Way to go Gentlemen!

Criminals are going the extra mile, so you should too.
Today, @YRP announced 20 arrests and more than 230 charges as a result of #ProjectDusk. The four-month investigation helped dismantle criminal groups breaking into dozens of homes in #YorkRegion.
Officers also recovered tools like crowbars, punches, screwdrivers, radios and Wi-Fi signal jammers and detectors, which can not be sold legally in Canada.
Six steps can help you protect your home from becoming the target of thieves
💡 Install security cameras and put lights on timers
🌳 Cut back shrubs that block the view of entrances
🔒 Lock up all doors and windows
💍 Store your valuables somewhere safe (not the bedroom)
🤝 Know your neighbours and have them watch your house while you're away

Shaken, unsafe and violated. That's how victims feel after criminals break into their homes.
I'm proud of the @YRP members who worked on #ProjectDusk. This investigation led to 20 arrests and more than 230 charges that stemmed from 40+ residential break and enters in #YorkRegion.
I'm even happier that much of the $2 million in stolen property has been returned to its rightful owners.

I was saddened to learn of the passing of Madeleine Bodenstein, a beloved member of the York Region police service family.
Madeline passed away peacefully on January 29 with her husband Kenny by her side. During the last two years, she has been an active member of the Police Service Board, supporting @YRP's Holiday Heroes campaign and regularly attending @YRP community events and celebrations.
Behind her remarkable commitment, was her ever-present smile and a wonderful sense of humour that made her so incredible to serve along side. I would like to share my deepest condolences to her friends and family, and everyone who is sharing in this great loss.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Madeleine Bodenstein a cherished member of our board. Madeleine served with compassion and dedication and impacted our organization and the lives of those we serve.
You will be missed but never forgotten.
