25 days to #6samls 🐟
Understanding the importance of estuaries to #marine#linefish species is important, especially since many of these are dependent on estuaries at some stage during their lives. To account for this, we have a session dedicated to monitoring estuaries.

Having studied various aspects of multiple #SouthernAfrica marine #linefish species over the past (almost) 40 years, he has contributed significantly to what we currently know about these species. Colin will cover some monitoring work from the De Hoop #MPA over the past 40 years!
27 days🐟
FOUR WEEKS until #6samls!
We have three brilliant keynote speakers for the #linefish Symposium. The first is Prof Colin Attwood from @UCT_news, a #marine linefish researcher and legend! He's also attended every single linefish symposium since its inception in 1989.

Learning more about the ecology of a #linefish species is only as good as knowledge of its biology (i.e. diet, reproduction, age, growth).
#6samls has 6 #SouthernAfrica life history talks lined up, focusing on species such as west coast steenbras, dusky kob & silver kob 🐟
32 days until #6samls
We have two dedicated fish movement sessions covering talks on species such as iconic giant kingfish, to smaller mullet and blacktail, to commercially important smoothhound sharks!

Things are slowly coming together, and what a jam-packed programme we have! With at least 60 talks spread across 12 sessions, we'll be getting some insight into the #linefish research currently being conducted in #SouthernAfrica

34 days to #6samls
Researchers are now able to study the presence of animals in a region based purely on DNA found in their environments, to generating entire genomes of individual species! To this end, we have 7 #linefish genetics talks to look forward to.

The climate is changing, which is why it’s important to understand how #linefish abundance, movements + behaviour may change. With 10 talks in our #climatechange theme, we can’t help but feel that our researchers and students are on it!
📷@SAFER_Lab
We have some fisher engagement talks on our #6samls programme, including celebrating 40 incredible years of the @saambr ORI Cooperative Fish Tagging Project, a #citizenscience project that is among the top ranked volunteer programmes around the🌍, with >386 000 tag releases!
41 days until the #6samls 🎣
Researchers + students from 14 different organisations will be giving >50 presentations, with talks ranging from movement studies, to fisheries, to fisher engagement, and so much more!
