@RevHansen1563 My man, you really thought a visably male lion that gerwig repeatedly described as male was going to have Meryl Streeps unaltered voice? Come on now.
@FarleyForQueen@TariyePeterside To me I think that's why a glam rock style could work for Magicians Nephew but not the other books. Charm and a dying red sun. Parallel universes.
@JennMGreenberg Gerwig described aslan as male. He is clearly male in a mane in the trailer. How were you guys not expecting for Meryls voice to be altered.
@FoolishTimbet@MichaelGirdon@Lynxempire1@GreeneMan6 Aslan is Jesus Christ 100%--but intent and style also have to be considered. Lewis was an atheist before, so his writings for children focus on the freedom of discovery vs the rigidity sometimes found in Christian institutions.
@FoolishTimbet@MichaelGirdon@Lynxempire1@GreeneMan6 I don't think "explicitly Christian" is the full read. He intertwined Christian stories with fantasy for a young audience so they could experience the adventure of faith without the preachiness and pushiness.
@Mod2Severe Of course it's an IP rightly treasured by Christians, but as a former cynic and atheist, it's important to note that largely his intention was for children to individually experience Christianity without the overt preachiness.
@Alicia_Bittle_ Can I ask, from the trailer, what beliefs is Gerwig inserting? Especially since, from her body of work, Barbie is more centrist than liberal--which was why it appealed to so many people.
@nekaishi I think a key detail is that Lewis, a former atheist and cynic, wrote Narnia as a way for children to experience Christianity for themselves as an adventure, away from all the preachiness. Bright colors, 80s glam aesthetic doesn't change that. Also Aslan is clearly a male.
@MrDapperDragon To be fair, Magician's Nephew has always had a tinge of sci-fi about it, so I don't think we should expect following Narnia movies to have similar vibes.
@flyfoxpro@MichaelFKane This is the part where I'm confused: it was a heavily artistic trailer that briefly features an evil witch, the creation, Digory's sick mother--why the anti-christian concerns?
