Today's historic pic: 39 years ago today, G516, recently arrived from Sydney at the head of the last ever Southern Aurora, runs around its train at Spencer Street station, Melbourne, Vic, August 3 1986. The Aurora was a standard gauge all sleeping-car train introduced in 1962.

A few steps closer in reactivating Sleeping #Carriage NAM2380 with extensive electrical work and cosmetic restorations, all 22 side windows have been replaced as have seals renewed, new concertinas and waste holding tanks fitted to bring it to modern standards for our #guests
