Wang was recommended to attend a medical university in Shanghai as a representative of "educable children" in 1975. However, she was rejected because she was three months older than the age limit for university enrollment. Tragically, she took her own life later that same year.
Several years ago, I conducted an oral history on a Shanghai sent-down youth in Jiangxi and did not expect to publish it at all. Now, I am glad to see it published, and Wang’s story is recorded by history studies. https://t.co/b6YPpQbHoU
