I've been thinking for a while there's a strong #policy case for subsidising regional news outlets across the board - it's pretty much a social utility a la electricity or water.
The Victorian Government @DanielAndrewsMP must be aware of the damage to regional communities the loss of their newspapers represents? In times of #coronavirus, you need every local news source there is
@COVID_Australia Sunraysia Daily - Mildura's only daily newspaper will also close - last paper rolls off the presses on Saturday. https://t.co/2etF1nW6vE #COVIDー19#COVID19Aus@withMEAA

And let's face it: sweet, shareable content pushed out from a Premier's SM account is always going to have a 'metro-centric' vibe that won't go down too well outside capital cities @DanielAndrewsMP@GladysB

To be clear, @VicGovtNews needs to start supporting local news groups $$$ as a social capital resource. It's beyond fundamental in times like these that communities can access reliable news sources rather than junk off various SM...
Haven't been here for ages but the impact of #coronavirus on regional papers here in Aust is just awful - please #buythepaper wherever you are. FB is no substitute for actual expert #journalism
This is terrible for local journalism. Local papers Yarram Standard and the Great Southern Star have been shut down and won't be publishing further editions. Staff say advertising revenue is down. Yarram Standard has been in publication for more than 120 years. @COVID_Australia

Trump isn’t racist. He’s worse. He’s so narcissistic he doesn’t see people as people. It’s why he doesn’t have any real friends. It’s why he gives a thumbs up next to an orphaned baby after a mass shooting. Everybody is an obstacle or a stepping stone. https://t.co/RGw1R5ByPb
The West Antarctic Ice Sheet is melting and has probably passed the tipping point to its complete demise, causing a long-term sea-level rise of 3 meters. But is that our fault? That has long been unclear, but now a new paper in NatGeo finds: yes, it is. https://t.co/LMwuIXUNnP
If this is the Australian Government’s idea of a "step up" in its relations with the Pacific, it’s certainly not a step forward. It’s a big step backwards.

It appears Morrison has been roundly outsmarted and outplayed (diplomatically body-slammed) by Beijing.
Coal Lobby v National Security?
Coal Lobby take a bow.
Thread. New analysis looks closely at the scale of Clive Palmer's advertising during the election, and the tactics of the messaging. It's fascinating, and, frankly, troubling https://t.co/7ebq9PtR9o
