everything's important. but don't worry.

Like Napster all over again- except Altman is full mask-off.

I give him points for not even pretending to give a flip about artists.

One of the worst parts about music file sharing was having to hear all the made-up narratives about how it was going to 'liberate' artists.

[ControlAI @ControlAI]

Chris Anderson (@TEDchris): "At first glance, this looks like IP theft."

[audience applauds]

Sam Altman (@sama): "You can clap about that all you want. Enjoy."

@GeorgiaTechFB unacceptable

@Cradle_of_Adwa @OrderOfMentats @AtelierMissor_ I’m tired of living amongst rational defeatists.

[D Grady @76Grady]

@OdohertyI64991 @roisinmurphy lol I will respond to your question of “why are they amazing” with a further assertion that “they are amazing.”

Incredible criticism.

[D Grady @76Grady]

@JayMbakwe ok, this was the first thing i wanted to read this morning. glad to hear you are ok and feeling good.

@RutgerHauser @JosephKahn there is not belgium. it's just america's brewery.

I resigned from Apple today. I spent the last three years doing foldable research at both google and apple. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving foldables and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.

[Daniel Jeffries @Dan_Jeffries1]

Not only I am tired of these wild AI speculations of impeding doom from self important people:

I resent them.

I actively resent people proposing to crash the economy or proposing authoritarian control over my life and other people's lives with idiotic and dangerous ideas like chip control or bans or tracking researchers.

Every idiot in history who's taken the approach of "the ends justify the means" to solve an imaginary future disaster created the very disaster they wanted to stop.

See Population Bomb leading to the one child policy and Communism leading to Mao's mass famines and Fascism leading to the death of tens of millions of people and war.

These solutions are evil and worse than any disease that they propose to solve.

It you believe you can actually predict the end of the world then you are as insane as the Heaven's Gate cult that killed themselves in the 90s thinking UFOs were coming to transcend them.

Not only should we not take your policies and fear mongering seriously, we should actively throw out any and all of your proposed solutions because they come from a place of delusion.

I don't give a shit that you work in the industry or think you saw something or that you want to virtue signal on X. You are actively contributing to a horrible future based on baseless speculation that has no grounding in reality.

Don't confuse expertise in a domain with ability to predict impact of that domain or frankly to make predictions a decade out better than a dart throwing monkey.

They are orthagonal skills.

How's Hinton's "we don't need to train Radiologists anymore" working out? How did the Population Bomb work out? The global cooling second ice age? Peak oil?

Just because someone is a bridge engineer does not mean they can predict the impact of bridges on society or that they have any actually useful insight at all on the complex, ever changing system called life.

There are people dying in wars right now. Children starving. Homelessness. Dictatorships.

In short, real problems. And we're supposed to drop everything to stop a made up problem in your head?

Pound sand.

We don't care. And we are not going to remake society based on you scary monsters under the bed delusion.

[D Grady @76Grady]

@danieljohnclark @JosephKahn You’re giving them way too much credit.

What Nike really did was start parroting “luxury beliefs” as their marketing strategy.

Which, in addition to being incredibly financially destructive, is unforgivably lacking in creativity.

[D Grady @76Grady]

@TBestig @chairaficionado @HipCityReg Being striking and honest isn’t a virtue in and of itself.

Reminding baby shower attendees of mortality, for example, just makes you a boor.

I’ll take the aspirational, even if I share it with the “elite”.

[D Grady @76Grady]

@R_A_Belcher Atlanta football fandom is a tough proposition.

[D Grady @76Grady]

@JosephKahn Figuring out timing almost becomes part of the plot.

[D Grady @76Grady]

@vvanderer11 @JosephKahn ah, the “all people richer than me must be evil” cope.

just admit you don’t know anyone worth knowing in finance.

Thats merely from the text- any serious examination of the differences between Japan’s COVID response and the U.S. will reveal wide ranging differences in both implementation and outcome.

I’m not gonna list them here, especially for someone who doesn’t read the material they post beforehand. Grow up- and research before you post.

[D Grady @76Grady]

Amazing self own here, from the article:

“The Japanese version of COVID-19 lockdown is a little weaker than those enforced elsewhere, where the stay-at-home request was voluntary."”

“The national authority's policy was to raise public awareness and stop the spread of this virus without requiring a full shutdown.”

I don’t think you actually read it.

[D Grady @76Grady]

@R_A_Belcher @southernsunny1 Absolutely.

Reading Tony Fauci’s journals and then rewatching some of his public appearances (his infamous door to door skits come to mind) from the same time period…I’m not sure anyone could’ve damage the perception of public health officials more.

[D Grady @76Grady]

@southernsunny1 @R_A_Belcher Yeah that's false. Sweden and Japan both ran lower overall restrictions than the U.S., with Sweden skipping hard lockdowns and Japan relying mainly on voluntary measures.

Both are definitively advanced nations.

[D Grady @76Grady]

@JosephKahn First part of the shingles vax was worse than having actual COVID 19.
