18 of the last 20 Mark Ruffalo movies were not shot in Los Angeles. Not the guy to talk about California film industry jobs. Undeniably great actor though.
Mexico City is cosmopolitizing. Are there poor areas? Sure. Plenty of slums in American cities too. But the difference is Mexico City is expanding its gentrification into the slums, while in America the slums move into the once gentrified areas.
@SolovinoE Frankly that is the story of every giant industrializing city in the world. Historical injustices in racial zoning and development is a big topic on the left here.
@Godard_ofwar You can see Kubrick's influence in many American filmmakers from Fincher to Spielberg to Nolan (he has a British accent but that dude is American). You don't really see Kurosawa in many popular Japanese filmmakers (unless through Star Wars).
Akira Kurosawa is one of the best filmmakers in history. Distinctive style. Yet why don't any other Japanese filmmakers take his mantle? Why don't they embrace his aesthetics and techniques? Western filmmakers do. Is he not loved in Japan? Where is the new Japanese Kurosawa?
@Drakho76 We slums in the USA too. Visit Appalachia or Detroit. If the point is Mexico City keeps its tourist areas clean, then it is doing a better job than Hollywood.
The irony about the SNL comedy of the late 70s is that I don't think many of those skits are funny anymore. They feel like affected cool kids. However the stuff they felt was dated like Batman and Brady Bunch are still genuinely funny.
Because the level of precision and control over the image you have shooting digitally is indispensable. You know exactly what you are getting. The film out process and choice of lenses allows you to bring a more organic, analog quality back to what you’ve shot. A beautiful, and carefully developed imperfection.
Accusation that Asians just study all the time doesn't apply to me. I stopped reading books senior year high school. Not just English books but chemistry and physics. Just winged it, because I wanted to read Michael Crichton novels and study movies. In retrospect probably a mistake because I'm of the age I could have invented Google and been a billionaire.
