I always love your analysis but on this you are dead wrong! The ECK’s failures provided the spark that ignited the tinder. But the tinder—unresolved historical injustices, ethnicised patronage politics, impunity, and weak institutions,had been accumulating for years. Blaming only the “compromised ECK chairman” ignores these structural issues and risks letting other actors dead and alive..by this I mean politicians who incited or organised violence, or who benefited from the status quo, OFF THE HOOK

My wife asked me to delete a voicemail without listening to it.

She'd accidentally sent it to my phone instead of her sister's.

"Just delete it," she said. "It's embarrassing."

I was about to.

Then she added,
"Promise me you won't listen."

She'd never asked me for a promise over something so small.

I started wondering why.

That night, I couldn't stop thinking about it.

The voicemail was still sitting there.

Unread.
Unplayed.

The next morning, her sister called me.

She didn't know about the voicemail.

She just asked,
"Has she told you yet?"
I asked what she meant.

There was a long silence.
Then she said,

"Forget I said anything."

Before hanging up, she added,

"Just... don't make any big decisions until you talk to her."

Now I had two choices.
Keep the promise I'd made...

Or listen to the voicemail that suddenly felt like the only honest answer.

That evening, my wife came home, sat beside me, and saw the notification was still there.

In a decisive operation, detectives have neutralised a key suspect linked to the brazen armed robbery at a popular restaurant in Spring Valley, Nairobi, and recovered a Beretta pistol following a fierce shootout in Joska, Machakos County.

The suspect is also believed to have been part of a criminal network behind a series of violent robberies across Nairobi, Kiambu and Machakos counties.

Acting swiftly on crucial intel, detectives from DCI Headquarters joined forces with their DCI Matungulu counterparts to launch a raid on a house in Joska Town, where the suspect had reportedly taken refuge in his girlfriend’s house.

Upon identifying themselves and ordering the occupants to open the door, the suspect opened fire through a kitchen window, spraying bullets at the officers. Detectives returned fire in self-defence.

After securing the premises and gaining entry, the detectives discovered the suspect lying fatally wounded inside the house.

A Beretta pistol, loaded with a magazine containing four rounds of 9mm ammunition, alongside live rounds and spent cartridges, were recovered at the scene. Also recovered were three mobile phones.

Preliminary investigations strongly link the suspect to the recent daylight robbery along General Mathenge Road in Spring Valley, Westlands, where armed thugs terrorised diners, snatching phones and valuables before fleeing on motorcycles.

The recovered firearm is now in the custody of the National Police Service Forensic Laboratory (NPSFL), where ballistic experts will examine it for possible links to other violent crimes.

Meanwhile, a manhunt is underway to trail down the suspect's accomplices, who remain at large.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations reaffirms its commitment to dismantling violent criminal networks and ensuring that all those involved in serious crimes face the full force of the law.
