🚨 BREAKING: A Broadcom Wi-Fi bug lets anyone in range run code on routers without the password.
Quentin Kaiser showed it on Proximus, Orange Belgium and VOO routers and estimates ~1.5M in Belgium are exposed, none patched.
The bug dates to 2010. Broadcom won't assign a CVE.
+3 dB = double the power −3 dB = half the power +10 dB = 10x the power −10 dB = 1/10 the power
I step the AP up 3 dB at a time, back down 3 dB at a time, then jump ±10 dB, against three walls:
- Drywall ~3 dB: most of the signal passes, about half is lost - Concrete ~13 dB (10+3): only ~1/20 makes it through - Metal ~30 dB (10+10+10): ~1/1000 gets through, the rest reflects back into the room
Notice that doubling power doesn't double coverage, and no amount of +3s gets you through a metal wall.
In all examples I account for a 1 dB cable loss.
@_everythingism@AndrewCurran_ Do you think all indigenous Amazon tribes understand the chemistry behind the herbs they use to treat wounds? Yet they benefit from it because they know they work.
@AIandDesign I understand that the less mean data SI is trained on, the lower the chances it will be mean to humanity in the future. But what about the private chats?
