Whilst Poland recieves it's second batch of 180 K2 tanks to reinforce its north-east border, part of a 1,000 unit total order from South Korea, the UK is withdrawing it's 14 Challengers from Estonia's border with Russia, in place of drones & an as yet undefined & untested doctrine, as it transitions down to only 148 tanks (enough for 2 regiments down from 3).

Little wonder Poland is being taken far more seriously by the US in its Europe Posture Review, and NATO 3.0 discussions.

Whilst the UK has the highest energy costs in the developed world, a stagnant labour market, industrial deindustrialisation, & a defence mindset rushing towards drone warfare at the expense of traditional, proven, tested platforms, countries like Poland are leading the way in the future of European defence.

Important piece from Dr Radomir Tylecote (not on X) and Robert Clark (@RobertClark87) of @878org on the dangerous hollowness of Britain’s defence capabilities.

For me, the most important point is the warning about the Royal Navy.

Britain is becoming more dependent on undersea energy infrastructure and Russia is actively mapping it with vessels such as Yantar in 2025. Yet the service responsible for protecting those approaches is judged to be the weakest service branch.

That matters because NESO in November 2025 warned that Britain is already heading towards a system that could fail the N-1 resilience test from 2030/31 if its largest piece of gas infrastructure (the Langeled pipeline between Norway and the UK) is damaged or destroyed in a Nordstream 2-style attack.

I find it extraordinary that, in a post-2022 world, these debates are still being kept in separate silos in Westminster. Defence weakness, domestic energy policy, and national security strategy all intersect.

All this complacency could turn into a perfect storm very quickly.
