Nepal is facing a devastating flash-flood disaster in northern Rasuwa, near the Tibet-China border. A suspected ice-and-rock avalanche sent a massive surge through the Lhende Khola/Bhotekoshi river system. A 4.4-magnitude earthquake may have contributed, though the cause remains under investigation.
At least 31 people have died and 384 are missing, including 105 Indians. Rescue operations continue amid damaged roads, heavy debris and the threat of further flooding. Authorities are urging people to stay away from riverbanks as the situation remains critical.
The floodwaters also pose a downstream threat to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, with authorities on high alert over possible rises in the Gandak and Narayani rivers. Rescue and disaster-response teams have been placed on standby in vulnerable districts, while officials closely monitor river levels and embankments.
