Human Rights Campaigner- Granddaughter of 38 year old Paddy Butler who was killed by the British Army on 9th July 72- in the Springhill/Westrock Massacre
The truth will no longer remain in the darkness.
Our loved ones are shining the light brightly to lead the way for the inquest verdict into their deaths tomorrow.
We remember Margaret, David, John, Paddy and Fr Noel.
We carry you always in our hearts.
Respect to the Springhill families who today, finally, got the apology and recognition they deserved, and reacted with such grace. I cannot imagine how difficult this has been.
Credit also to @10DowningStreet and @hilarybennmp for handling this respectfully.
@OMuirighSols Thank you for advocating for us so fearless and for believing in our case. Without the hard work and dedication we wouldn't have achieve the legal vindication. Thank you for the countless hours, meetings and words of encouragement. We will never be able to repay you.
@StrayBulletsRUC Thank you for your kind words and your unwavering support throughout the years. It has really meant the world to me. Your kindness could never be repayed ♥️
@moneillsf On behalf of the Butler family, thank you very for much your kind words. It hasbeen a very long and emotional journey to get to this point. We never gave up ♥️
After 54 years, our family finally received an official apology from the British PM Sir Keir Starmer for the death of my grandfather, Patrick Butler, at Springhill in 1972.
Nothing can undo the loss or the pain we have carried for more than five decades, but this acknowledgement matters and means a great deal to us.
Today marks the final step of our campaign journey for truth and acknowledgement. We can finally begin to heal as a family with his good name restored.
I want to pay tribute to the families of those murdered in the Springhill/Westrock massacre by the British army who for more than five decades have campaigned for truth, justice and acknowledgement.
Despite obstacles, challenges and setbacks, they never gave up and never gave in.
Their dignity and resilience over the past 53 years has been nothing short of extraordinary.
The recent vindication in the courts, along with today’s apology by the British Prime Minister, stands as a testament to the families’ perseverance.
Today belongs to the victims of the Springhill/Westrock massacre, to their families, and to the people of West Belfast who stood shoulder to shoulder with them throughout this long and hard journey.
@StephenNolan Stephen thank you for handling this interview so sensitively and with so much empathy. Harry is such a wonderful person. He is truly remarkable
We received letters of condolence from mother’s of British soldiers – and malicious letters calling my sister IRA scum
Harry Gargan, brother of innocent 13 year old Margaret Gargan who was killed by British Army in Springhill in 1972
The Taoiseach, in reply to my question in the Dáil, stated that there should be an apology from the British government in relation to the Springhill Massacre.
5 people; 3 children, a father and a priest were killed by the British Army.
Will @hilarybennmp do the right thing?
