Only nightmares remain in the memory of #Yazidis people, and those nightmares are the truth that happened with them.
#YazidiGenocide

A hole in the chest, directly in the heart, ends a name, a dream, and the story of an entire family forever.
One of the mass graves of Yazidis in Sinjar.

In November 2023, as part of the #project (Supporting the Marla Ruzica Fund for War Victims and Supporting the Return of the Displaced Persons in the #Nineveh Plain and Western Nineveh), we began opening a #football competition in Tel Azir.
Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani ordered relevant authorities to initiate the reconstruction of the village of Kocho in Shingal (Sinjar), the site of some of the Islamic State’s (ISIS) most gruesome atrocities against the Yazidi community.

Today marks the commemoration of the 9-year anniversary since the massacre in my village, Kocho. Our community lost everything: families and friends, homes, and hope. We grieve for all that we have lost and continue to search for those who are still missing, while fighting for justice on every level. We will honor our loved ones and advocate every day to create a safer future for the #Yazidi people.
Before 2014, we held onto ambitious dreams, unaware of the trials that lay ahead. The emergence of ISIS shattered our lives, forcing us to abandon our homeland, endure the pain of losing family members, and experience the heartbreak of separation from loved ones. In the aftermath, the lack of substantial support from Western Countries has hindered our efforts to reunite with our families and rebuild stability. The absence of significant government assistance further compounds our challenges. It's a deeply unfortunate and sorrowful situation we find ourselves in, where resilience is our only solace amidst the turmoil. 🌍

The 9th anniversary of the crimes committed by the Daesh terrorist group against the Yazidis and others in Iraq is a painful reminder of the importance of embracing peaceful coexistence and rejecting all forms of discrimination based on religion or sect or ethnicity.
Yazda held a conference in Erbil that brought together survivors, governmental and UN representatives as well as NGOs and activists for the 9th commemoration of the #YazidiGenocide
This week, we mark the ninth anniversary of the Yezidi genocide. It was an honor to deliver these remarks for my virtual participation in commemoration events. Justice and accountability are crucial to those whose lives have been destroyed.
