The #BlackHistoryMonth honoree for February 10, 2024 is Dr. Zohra Aziza Baccouche. Dr. Baccouche (November 25, 1976 - June 11, 2021) was the first African-American woman to earn a PhD in physics in the entire state of Maryland. #NSBP#BHM https://t.co/eAykOyP9uI
Hi all, one of our co-founders is in a physics & astronomy department threatened with elimination, please sign the petition! @AliciaAarnio has been working hard on accessible astronomy at @UNCGphysics and with the AAS for years, it would be a big loss for her students (and us!)
Astronomy is for everyone! Join us this Sunday as we discuss advocacy for astronomers with disabilities and the inclusive, new technology that aids their work with Alicia Aarnio of @AAS_WGAD & @KimberlyKowal from @NASA's @ChandraXray Observatory #AstroLive https://t.co/JVAodPE5i3
ICYMI, shout-outs in here to us and a couple of our co-founders! Sonification is a way to render data that opens astronomy to more people and gives us another way to engage with the universe. We love multimodal access👏 #DisabilityPrideMonth
A group of astronomers are turning celestial data into almost musical sequences of sounds to make space images more accessible to a wider audience that includes visually impaired people. https://t.co/FvSR87ssC8
Attention #AAS241: as we depart and return home, I hope we all remain COVID-free. However, if you do test positive, please, even though the meeting is over, (anonymously) report your case here so that we can know how we did as a society.
We are hoping you all stay healthy, and have had a positive, welcoming and accessible time at #AAS241. Thank you for being kind and showing so much grace to one another. What an incredible community. ♥️ Remember that @AAS_WGAD is soliciting your feedback:

my list of "things you can do NOW to improve accessibility":
-learn more+educate yourself
-consider accessibility in your syllabi/course policies/outreach work
-normalize talking about access needs
-wear a mask
-support hybrid/online access like @ #AAS241!
-read Aarnio et al 2020
Please fill out this survey to provide feedback about accessibility at #AAS241! This includes such things as the mask mandate and hybrid meeting.
This helps inform @AAS_WGAD so we can collate responses to help future meetings.

There are many ways to explore the cosmos. @chandraxray’s Tactile Universe provides materials that are accessible to people who are blind or visually impaired through Braille, tactile techniques, 3D printing, audio, and more: https://t.co/H3WtbQ3Jix #WorldBrailleDay
“I started realizing that every time I was given an accommodation or was in a space w/accessibility, I was able to accomplish my goals, and frankly, live like a regular teen. It made me realize that my body is not a barrier; society's lack of access is.” https://t.co/n8fpbnFscl
Yay for conferences with Covid measures! 17,000 people registered for COP15. Each gets two boxes of masks and 3 boxes of rapid tests. Masks and a daily negative covid test are required on site.
This is a remarkable opportunity to begin to address the ableism and lack of accessibility in science and creates a roadmap for addressing the underrepresentation of disabled researchers, as <2% of funded NIH researchers report being disabled @meekslisa https://t.co/FxSpF0mgZ4
I don't think I can overstate how cool this @UCLAPlanetarium show is going to be!!!!! sneak peeks of some of the 3D prints to be featured in the show. can anyone guess what they are?
