@abcd123_abcd123@AAUP@SamforGeorgia@BORUSG Additionally, tenure and the academic freedom that it supports provide for better higher education and a higher ROI for students and parents.
@abcd123_abcd123@AAUP@SamforGeorgia@BORUSG Fair question. With the protections of academic freedom, we can and do advocate for higher state spending on higher education to transfer some of the costs of attendance back from students and parents to the state, as it was before the Great Recession.
@joe_selvaggio @AAUP@BORUSG The USG BOR has no faculty on the board. In fact, faculty are very constrained in our ability to share our views with members of the BOR.
Our status as a censured USG and institutions is part of who we are now and until the BOR reverses its decision to end tenure at its institutions. It will make it easier for good faculty to leave USG institutions and harder for good faculty to decide to join us.
BREAKING: Moments ago, the governing Council of the AAUP voted unanimously to censure the @BORUSG for the unilateral action of its admin & governing board to remove the protections of tenure & #academicfreedom from the system’s post-tenure review policy.

"We all have to make our own decisions about risk and our individual level of comfort."
NO. We live in a *society*, with unequal privilege and vulnerability. This individualistic approach is incredibly damaging and is one reason the pandemic continues, despite wishful thinking.
