The most plausible explanation for the Luka trade is that the Adelston family was willing to rip the heart out of this city for political leverage on casino gambling legalization. This should be a non starter after what they took from North Texas.

The NBA brass doesn’t like that Texas and TX adjacent OKC would be the power center of the league for 10+ years. Sacrifice one team to spread the wealth.

Adelsons gambled that they could get casinos approved in Texas when they bought the Mavericks and all that land. They have never been further away from that goal as Texas went strongly to the right. Now we have Luka Doncic traded as he was about to get the supermax. Fire sale?
