I think that’s exactly what was implied in ex-mayor Leppert’s 5/10 op-ed. It was a warning shot to the NBA, perfectly timed. The Adelsons’ relationship with Pres. Trump has been the only thing protecting them (and the NBA) from a state of Texas investigation. @chris_kratovil
The most plausible explanation for the Luka trade is that the Adelston family was willing to rip the heart out of this city for political leverage on casino gambling legalization. This should be a non starter after what they took from North Texas.
Here comes the full court press that should last the rest of the Texas lege session. But did the Adelsons pull the trigger prematurely with the Luka trade? Time will tell.
@jasonwhitlock@chris_kratovil Also, the current state of the teams in OKC then San Antonio, then Houston factored in to make the Luka trade possible. The NBA brass doesn’t like that Texas and TX adjacent OKC would be the power center of the league for 10+ years. Sacrifice one team to spread the wealth.
Adelsons gambled that they could get casinos approved in Texas when they bought the Mavericks and all that land. They have never been further away from that goal as Texas went strongly to the right. Now we have Luka Doncic traded as he was about to get the supermax. Fire sale?
RIP the great James Earl Jones, whose range was often overlooked. For instance, he was excellent in Best of the Best. But my favorite of his roles has to be Thulsa Doom in Conan the Barbarian, a villain who could induce an existential crisis in his enemies before killing them.
@KelleyBVlahos: "John [Hostettler] was a bit ahead of his time" for his views on foreign policy before "Trump came along and made it OK to question the Iraq War."
It is said nothing is so powerful as an idea whose time has come. We'll find out tonight... https://t.co/BLHX6rvSEW

CORRUPTION?
Congress is preparing to authorize $60 billion in taxpayer spending on Ukraine even as Ukrainian leadership allegedly embezzles so much that the chief of the CIA has asked them to stop.
Those who pushed for invading Iraq now point to the threat from the only winner in that war, Iran, to oppose one of the few lawmakers who had the foresight to vote against their disastrous war in 2002. Now that’s some chutzpah! @DallasExpress
