Happy #AntarcticaDay!
On 1 December 1959 the Antarctic Treaty was signed by 12 nations, setting aside nearly 10% of the Earth "forever to be used exclusively for peaceful purposes... in the interests of all mankind." Today there are more than 50 nations signed up to the treaty.
Antarctica is geographically remote for most of us, but its future is closely linked to that of future generations.
I was encouraged to see how people working in & for Antarctica are guided by cooperation, not competition.
This is the spirit we need next week at #COP28.
92 Artists, including myself, have work in the Fifth National Climate Assessment. The art is featured as chapter headers, and on the Art x Climate page. My paintings are featured in Chapter 21: Northeast. Check out the report and the art!
