We have an anti-masker on board the flight and the pilot used the PA system to say, “It’s been two years, stop playing this game and stop getting your medical information from YouTube.” We’re sitting on the runway now and I’m hoping it’s because police are coming. 🤞🏼#covid19ab
@mpinedar@ABBedClosures@jvipondmd The numbers in ICU would be easily manageable with the existing number of ICU beds if everyone got vaccinated. It isn't vaccinated patients who are overwhelming the system, nor vaccinated patients with vaccination complications, it is simply the unvaccinated. Get Vaccinated!!
A team of nurse researchers is interviewing Albertan ICU nurses, and redeployed nurses, to understand what the impact of ICU expansion is on the care provided. To participate, please signup for an interview with this link: https://t.co/WXarv53X9b or the QR code below.
Survivors are talking. I hope they talk more. I hope Kenney grows a set and accepts the invitation to come walk these halls himself. Because somehow it needs to become real to people, that ICU is far worse then anything they’ve imagined a vaccine could do.
This means bedsores, muscle atrophy, bacterial infections on top of the viral one, maintaining nutrition by tube feeding you. They are turning you in bed every 2 hours, 24 hours a day. Cleaning your bowel movements. Deep suctioning your lungs. Constantly monitoring blood samples
ICU is not pretty. This is not grey’s anatomy. They are not sitting serenely, propped on a cloud of white pillows. Even if you are beating Covid at this point, your healthcare team is in a full blown battle to try and prevent any other very common ICU complication from happening
Also consider the mental trauma of being intubated, and then not knowing what happened while you were sedated, for some people that means multiple weeks or longer (FYI, you still pooped)
And here we are. Many of them will never make it home. Even if they do, they will face months and months of physical therapy to regain the function they lost due to ICU acquired weakness
I’m not angry. Because it’s so damn sad. These people are parents, they’re loved ones, they lived perfectly functional normal lives before this. And they just got fed enough of that shitty misinformation to make them doubt the vaccine, or at least hesitate…
You know, I thought I would be angry, or at least annoyed with the unvaxxed in ICU. But I’m not. Because as I walk around, seeing patient after patient on their bellies, fielding calls from worried family, analyzing ever worsening bloodwork, reading patients histories…
Patient: "But so many people in AB died due to the vaccine!"
Me: "None of our clinic's patients have died or been hospitalized after the #COVIDvaccine"
P: "How do you know? It's not reported!"
Me: "Well we know if our patients died. We don't miss that"
