We are treating the confirmed case of New World Screwworm in a Texas cattle ranch with the utmost seriousness and are responding aggressively alongside our state partners @TAHC.

USDA's proactive actions bought us nearly a year to prepare, as models had projected New World Screwworm would reach the United States by the summer of 2025. That preparation allowed us to move immediately when this case was detected.

After years of unchecked spread through Central and South America, this devastating pest has now reached the United States. The Trump Administration and USDA acted swiftly, activating our New World Screwworm Response Playbook, establishing quarantines and movement controls, accelerating sterile fly releases, expanding border trapping, and intensifying livestock and wildlife surveillance.

We are using every tool available, in partnership with states, ranchers, and wildlife officials, to eradicate this pest before it can spread and threaten American cattle producers.

We have been warning the public on New World Screwworm for over a year now (some much longer than us)

We even had our account on X suspended for a month when we showed a picture of what an infection looks like in a human, shortly before there was a human case confirmed in the US last August

The Secretary of Agriculture continued to assure the public that the Screwworm situation was “under control” and continued to ignore concerns and requests from producers and elected officials from her home state of Texas

This is not something to no longer downplay or brush off

The Agricultural industry is already entering into hellish conditions this summer because of drought and rising fuel and input prices, compounded now with an outbreak of flesh eating maggots

We need serious and dedicated leadership on this

We need a whole of government approach

We need states next to Texas and Mexico to be able access the resources and funding to combat this pest as they will be caught completely off guard when it reaches their states

We have asked before months ago but are asking again for President Trump to declare a National Emergency Declaration TODAY!

Fidelity has announced that it is making the SpaceX IPO available to any customer with a retail brokerage account with $2,000 or more in the account (down from up to $500k before).

A major vendor, @UnionPacific, decided to paint one of its locomotives in patriotic colors to celebrate America’s 250th birthday as it transports components of a NASA rocket. They also decided to paint “45 47” on the train to recognize the sitting President during this important anniversary. Now, I understand if someone served in a different administration, from a different political party, there may be a bias, but through my lens, what Union Pacific is doing is patriotic.

We also happen to be celebrating a lot of NASA’s “meaningful achievements,” including the giant Saturn V, the Moon landing, and other historical moments projected on the Washington Monument during America’s 250th birthday. We similarly have those accomplishments displayed at NASA centers to recognize these historic and world-changing achievements, but it is unlikely we can ask vendors to paint them on every locomotive.

Internet Computer Plans Free Cloud Engine Rollout

Internet Computer (@dfinity) founder Dominic Williams (@dominic_w) says a growing number of enterprises are waiting for ICP cloud engines.

The project plans to distribute free two week promo codes this summer to let users create and run cloud engines on Internet Computer nodes.

Williams said the initiative could strengthen demand for $ICP and accelerate onchain AI adoption.
