The computer used to be something you worked on.
Soon, it will be something that works for you.
For decades, software was passive.
A CRM waited for someone to update it.
An analytics dashboard waited for someone to interpret it.
An ad platform waited for someone to launch a campaign.
A bank account waited for someone to move money.
Every piece of software still had a human sitting between intention and execution.
That layer is disappearing.
Agents can now read the analytics, decide what changed, generate the creative, launch the experiment, answer the customer, update the website and come back with the result.
The interesting part isn’t that AI can use software.
It’s that almost every important business system is already becoming programmable.
Banking has APIs.
Ads have APIs.
Commerce has APIs.
Communication has APIs.
Infrastructure has APIs.
AI is becoming the missing connective tissue between them.
Eventually you won’t spend your day operating software.
You’ll tell the system what you want the company to accomplish.
And then go outside.
That’s the future we’re building toward at ClayLeo.
Starting a company used to require a surprising amount of physical action.
Ads meant billboards, print, sales teams, phone calls.
Banking meant branches, paperwork, waiting.
Incorporation meant lawyers, signatures, forms and days of coordination.
Support meant people answering phones.
Distribution meant people manually pushing things forward.
Now a huge amount of that is becoming software.
You can incorporate online.
Open financial infrastructure through APIs.
Buy distribution instantly through Google and Meta.
Generate creative, run support, analyze customers, deploy software and move money without leaving your laptop.
And now AI is starting to automate the work between those systems too. That changes what a company is.
The bottleneck is slowly moving away from “can we assemble enough people to do this?” toward “can we define the goal clearly enough?”
More of the economy is becoming machine-operable.
The end state isn’t just AI helping employees.
It’s companies becoming increasingly autonomous.
That’s what we’re building toward at ClayLeo.
the interesting thing about AI agents running a business isn't that they're smart.
it's what happens to the cost of trying something.
a full ad campaign: 4 image creatives + grounded copy, generated and ready to run, costs us about $0.48 in model spend.
a freelancer or agency doing the equivalent set of concepts: ~$300–500 and a few days.
that's a ~1000x drop in the cost of one marketing experiment.
here's the part people miss: when an experiment costs $0.48 instead of $500, the correct strategy inverts. you stop deliberating about which idea is best and start testing all of them. exploration becomes cheaper than planning.
so the agents don't just do the work faster. they change what's rational to attempt. a business can now afford to be wrong 100 times before lunch.
The human brain figured out model switching first. In our brains we have type 1 and type 2 thinking (a fast and slow mode).
the next layer of AI won't pick one inference mode and stick. it'll switch: fast for the obvious, deep for uncertain problems, like you do naturally.
model switching isn't new. you've been doing it since before language.
3,500+ people called me yesterday to get help on their @ycombinator application from me.
wasn't expecting it to move this fast, but then again, who doesn't want to make it into YC?
I had thousands of chats with founders yesterday and they're some of the most interesting people I've ever talked to. Helping them with their application made me realize that the YCF26 batch might be one of the best we're going to see to date.
If you still want my help on your YC applications,
Comment below "I want help with YC". I'm responding to all of them.
I'll refer my favorite ones to YC alumni.
The deadline is on Monday, July 27th.
Time is ticking, so let's make sure YC sees how good you really are.
Start your dream business today, with zero employees.
