At the end of May, the Justice Department deleted thousands of press releases related to the Jan. 6 insurrection and other matter.
This is the record DOJ is trying to delete, from @TylerMcBrien, Michael Feinberg, and Benjamin Wittes.
For more information on what we collected and how we collected it, read this new piece in @lawfare from me, Benjamin Wittes, and Michael Feinberg: https://t.co/EWikuUGjVh
NEW: The Trump administration's DOJ has been systematically removing materials from its websites regarding the many indictments and convictions related to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
In response, @lawfare has been systematically restoring them:
Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito's son has been secretly working as a political appointee attorney at the U.S. Treasury Department, raising serious conflict of interest questions as high-stakes cases involving the agency have made their way to the nation's highest court, according to a report.
While working there the SC heard a case on Trumps emergency powers and Justice Alito failed to to recuse himself. Alito’s son most likely got the job because of his father and he maintains no public resume, has no LinkedIn profile and his name appears nowhere on the Treasury Department's website.
Our once-respected DOJ is now an arm of the President’s effort to gaslight the American people. An affront to those who gave their lives to our Country! #MemorialDay
“The purge of news releases documenting criminal charges, convictions and sentencings is the latest step by the Trump administration to dramatically rewrite the history of the assault on the Capitol.”

There are more than 22,000 active habeas cases pending nationwide, and organizations working to file these petitions have been overwhelmingly successful.
Here's another phenomenon I've seen a lot lately;
-ICE detains someone
-The person sues, says their detention is illegal
-DOJ says "We have no counterargument"
-Judge orders release.

Also invites petitioner to seek “monetary sanctions.” which might mean attys fees under Equal Access to Justice Act or civil sanctions, not sure.

Although Judge Schilitz has now cancelled the contempt hearing for ICE director Lyons, he notes that ICE has violated 96 orders in 74 cases in the District of MN *this month*—likely more “than some agencies have violated in their entire existence.” ...

Amid ongoing debate over ICE’s use-of-force policies, @ProPublica reporter Nicole Foy walks through her team’s investigation into conduct by immigration officers:
This Jan. 6 more than ever, the U.S. needs lawyers to step up with public voices - neither partisan nor political - for the sake of democracy itself.

I’ll be on CNN tonight at 6:35 pm discussing Secretary Rubio’s decision to revoke noncitizens’ visas based on protected speech about Charlie Kirk. Tune in to hear me yap about free speech and the First Amendment (likely thing for me to do)
BREAKING: Judge William Young, a Reagan appointee, delivers the most scathing legal rebuke of the Trump era, ruling that Trump and his cabinet illegally targeted pro-Palestinian students for deportation to "strike fear" into First Amendment protesters. https://t.co/i7UCg2A429
