Because of FIFA’s new head-to-head rules, Austria and Algeria could both end up benefiting from NOT winning their final group game.

Both sides will safely finish above Jordan after beating them, but finishing 2nd in Group J would likely mean a clash with Spain… while finishing 3rd could set up a much kinder tie against Switzerland.

So Austria may actually be hoping to lose and drop into 3rd, while Algeria would be happy with a draw or defeat to stay there.

For the first time in World Cup history, we might see two teams with very little incentive to win. 😳
