@SeanScottHarvey Lower acuity and primary care clinical content, pt. assessment, care plans etc, which makes up a high proportion of caseload. Non-conveyance decision making.
Perhaps a full semester of on-road placement like a pre-internship so grads can hit the ground running.
@DaleGEdwards@AusEmergencyLaw We can all be very familiar with a vast array of skills, but that does not equate to competence. There is more to a skill than its indications, contras, and technical performance. There is often complex decision-making required and training needed from experienced clinicians.
This is defo the right path to take. We’ve been training Masters’s level Advanced Paramedic Practitioners for years & see non-conveyance rates some 35/40% higher than a regular paramedic as more care episodes are safely closed in community. At scale - its the only way forward.
@prof_cameron Absolutely. Paramedics need to be recognised and considered as part of the solution to healthcare workforce issues both within primary and urgent care. They can be part of a multidisciplinary approach especially in regional and rural areas where there are significant shortages.
New now @ParamedicineJ: Most patients ref'd to a GP by paramedics followed up with a GP within 72h.
#Paramedic practices that increased the likelihood of follow-up included giving specific time frames and assisting in booking the appointment.
