I suspect it's not going to be the Utopia that Brexiteers keep painting, but neither will it be the Armageddon that naysayers keep predicting either. We all have to wait & see. 😉

I'm not saying Brexit will be better (or worse) than what we have now, it will just be different. EU is a dwindling % of global market and that trend will continue. Opportunities are now global.

@biscuitsgod @DanielJHannan Ultimately, business wants certainty and clarity, hence their desire for the knowable quantity of our trading outlook of the last 40 years. Brexit will upset that apple cart but ultimately it will become the new knowable quantity. Businesses will adapt.

@biscuitsgod @DanielJHannan If US wants access to lucrative sections of UK market then that's the UK's gift to give. And the UK will ask for similar gifts in return. There's your position of strength, ultimately leading to mutual self-benefit or walking away from the negotiating table on your own terms.

@biscuitsgod @DanielJHannan They can say what they want on all these things, it doesn't mean that they'll hold sway over any of them. And even if they do, they'll have to be prepared to give ground on other issues that are of interest to the other party. Such is the basis of a negotiation.

Ticks more boxes on all sides than any other option. In a hopelessly divided nation crying out for some kind of resolution to all this, it really should be the only solution. And it certainly won't be the uncharted mayhem of an overnight divorce with no deal.

@Debs362436 @JamesMelville You talk of cults but then utter second referendum. EFTA should have been the preferred option from day one. Cameron should have announced that we were rejoining and then got on with running the country instead of running away. Brinkmanship & uncertainty is hammering us now.

@JamesMelville Couldn't agree more. We're in a situation that demands compromise and this is THE only compromise solution going. And you know that when hardcore extremists on both sides of the argument have been trying to discredit it for over 3 years, it must have merit based on common sense.

@jetjag100 @andrew_lilico Anybody who claims the EU has little power or influence over the lives of its citizens is either ignorant of how EU directives work or choosing to ignore the facts to suit their own arguments. Reality is, EU directives shape large % of laws implemented by member states. Ours too.

@jetjag100 @andrew_lilico ...figuratively and literally, the greater the deficit and sense of dislocation (see the irony of Scotland's position as prime example). Vast majority of all laws made in UK Parliament have their basis in EU directives and legislation. There's your shaping, hiding in plain sight.
