@lindsaylaneve Self-assessment rubrics are extremely useful for students to gauge their own learning and what they still need to work on in a way that is non-threatening. If they can create their own, that's an added benefit!

@SuzyQKlagz As you said, graphic organizers are a wonderful tool for organizing one's thoughts and ideas. They are particularly helpful to struggling readers, ELLs, multi-lingual learners, and students with special needs.

@KimRego18 I love reader response journals. This keeps students organized with their thoughts, and allows them to see what kind of questions they should be thinking about while they read.

@WidenerJenna Great point Jenna. Think-Pair-Share is a fantastic way for students to have the ability to process their own thoughts first, and then have the benefit of bouncing ideas off of another student before sharing aloud.

Student surveys before reading are a sound S/A strategy. They allow the student to see the expectations of a fluent reader in advance, and reflect on their own techniques and strategies before reading. They can then apply these skills as they begin to read. #GCU5203Furlong
