Friendly reminder that ADD is outdated terminology!
ADHD has 3 subtypes/presentations:
1. Hyperactive-impulsive
2. Inattentive
3. Combined
Inattentive type is now the correct way to refer to what many call "ADD"
Combined is the most common, and you can change types over time.
@BeschlossDC I remember the bombing in NYC at the WTC in 1993, I was pregnant and had to run to Penn Station to catch the last train out of the city to Long Island. That kid was in 2nd grade on 9/11. He is still very brave and will turn 30 in November. #proudmom
You don't owe anyone an apology for having a hard day-- & no one who loves you will expect or demand an apology for having a hard day.
How about you just do your best today, minute by minute. No shame; no apologies; no pressure; no regrets.
Easy does it.
@DrCamiloOrtiz - I had to read this twice - I got so excited. I have been seeing this in kids, teenagers and college students! They are over parented and have a little exposure or experience of being independent. When I asked one young person, why do you want to be a lawyer? He said heโs good at arguing he had no idea what the job was.
So interesting! Could another reason that survivors don't process the support from trauma recovery is because it brings up memories of how years of talk-therapy, being misunderstood, gaslighting & emotional abuse was PART OF the trauma? #fightorflight
One of the most frustrating parts of trauma recovery that we don't talk about enough is how the memory issues & racing/intrusive thoughts experienced by many survivors make it difficult to hang on to things we talk about, learn, & process in therapy.
It's actually SUPER common.
The greatest threats to mental health:
poverty
inequality
social injustice
abuse
trauma
discrimination (of all kinds)
neoliberalism
poor relationships, diet, exercise
social exclusion
materialism
prejudice
loneliness
iatrogenesis
individualism
meaninglessness
What did I miss?
@Kris10Parisi @RebeccaCokley As a former Middle School special education, teacher, & now a Career coach for people with ADHD. This is very shocking. Any tips for applicants? ๐
@Humanheadhunter So True! So how do we convince people that they should listen to professionals #adhdcareercoach when making possibly the BIGGEST decisions of their life?
@mhdksafa Wouldnt our world be a little different if we all just helped someone with $20, or $10, or $1 or even with holding the door, adding a tip, smiling?? ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐ฆ๐ซถ๐ท
@Dr_Joe_Newman I can totally relate to that experience. I was all prepared to speak to a large group of people. But, the only people in the audience were my mother, my husband and my teenager. #SomeThingIWillNeverForget ๐คช
4 people in my network took their lives this week.
2 out of the 4 were unemployed.
Unemployment can wreck havoc on your mental wellbeing. Check in on your friends who unemployed or underemployed.
Teachers don't leave because it's hard. Teachers are some of the most conscientious and hardest working professionals I know. They leave because the field fails to provide the pay, respect, support, and value that they deserve as professionals.
