The founder and practice manager of the Bethesda clinic in Windhoek, Josephine Angula, is among the top ten finalists in the prestigious Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award 2026.
With over 25 years of experience, Josephine Angula has built one of Namibia’s most impactful nurse-led healthcare models, starting from a single-room clinic and expanding into a comprehensive primary healthcare center.
In 2002, she established Bethesda Medical Centre in a small, rented space, working independently as a nurse to provide affordable care in underserved communities.
Over time, she transformed the facility into a large urban day clinic, integrating medical, dental, and radiology services, significantly improving access to diagnostics, continuity of care, and early disease detection for her community.
Aster DM Healthcare says the top ten finalists have been drawn from 134,000 entrants from across 214 countries, reinforcing its position as one of the most significant recognitions of the nursing profession.
The top 10 finalists for 2026 include entrants from the United Kingdom, Sweden, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, India, Colombia, Nigeria and Papua New Guinea.
The Founder Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare, Dr. Azad Moopen, says, "The role of nurses extends far beyond bedside care. Their commitment, dedication, and compassion make them the backbone of healthcare systems across the world.”
The final round will feature interviews with a distinguished grand jury comprising global health care leaders.
Managing Director and Group CEO of Aster DM Healthcare Alisha Moopen adds that "one of the most encouraging themes this year is how nurses are not only delivering impact today but also actively building capacity for the future." The top 10 finalists represent a generation of nursing leadership that is focused on sustainability, scalability, and long-term impact.”
One of the top 10 finalists will be honoured with the grand title and a prize of US$250,000, while the remaining finalists will also receive global recognition and rewards for their outstanding contributions to healthcare. The winner will be announced at a gala event in India in July 2026.
