Oral hypoglycemics will not be sufficient for steroid induced hyperglycemia. Insulin is needed. Difficult to do over tele health but high dose steroids for COVID-19 wreak havoc on blood sugars. #COVID19India

NPH insulin can be given at the time of steroid administration. A dose of 0.1 U/kg of NPH for every 10 mg prednisone equivalent of steroids is a good start. Dose twice a day for long acting steroids. Relatively easy to start for insulin naive patient #Endotwitter #CovidIndia

Steroids have a role in treatment of COVID-19 infection. Guidelines on steroid use are very clear. Please don’t give steroids to people indiscriminately. Have been seeing uncontrolled hyperglycemia for the last few days. #COVID19 #CovidInIndia
