The Africa Fintech Network is delighted to be a Partner for the Cambridge Digital Innovation and Regulation Initiative’s Global ‘Agentic Regulator’ Hackathon, which is running remotely from 8 July to 18 September 2026, with a prize pool of $100,000.

AI agents are automating decisions and executing complex workflows at breakneck speed-yet the public sector is being left behind. This adoption gap creates significant vulnerabilities, widening 'trust fractures' ranging from accountability gaps and consumer harm to machine-speed market manipulation.

The Agentic Regulator Hackathon brings together cross-sector actors and technology partners to design agentic AI solutions that address challenges and create opportunities for regulators worldwide.

📸 𝐏𝐈𝐂𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐀𝐋: Yesterday, @FitspaUG convened a Member and Stakeholder Review Session to present the proposed design of the FITSPA Fintech Fund, an initiative supported by the Science, Technology and Innovation Secretariat of Uganda, Office of the President (STI-OP).

The session brought together FITSPA members, regulators, development partners, and key ecosystem stakeholders to review the proposed Fund design, gather feedback, and build consensus on its structure, governance, operational model, and implementation framework.

The proposed Fund has been designed by @AsigmaGroup, which was engaged to develop the Fund’s investment, governance, risk management, operational, and implementation frameworks to guide its establishment and eventual operationalization.

Uganda’s fintech ecosystem continues to record impressive growth, but access to affordable financing remains one of the biggest barriers facing early-stage and scaling fintech companies. Through support from the Science, Technology and Innovation Secretariat, FITSPA is establishing the Fintech Fund to bridge this gap by providing a structured Line of Credit to eligible fintech companies. The Fund is expected to strengthen the capacity of fintech businesses to scale innovative solutions, expand financial inclusion, and accelerate the growth of Uganda’s digital economy.

In their remarks, @FITSPAUg Board Directors Benoni Okwenje, Kenneth Kwesiga and Herbert O. emphasized the importance of the initiative, noting that the Fund will provide much-needed financing to help fintechs strengthen their operations, scale their innovations, and extend financial services to underserved communities across Uganda.

The review session marked an important milestone in refining the Fund’s design through stakeholder engagement, ensuring that the final model reflects the priorities and realities of Uganda’s fintech ecosystem before implementation.
