"It is too easy for businesses to move to the other side. We cannot be ignorant of that."
Another Seattle Councilman speaks out against the anti-business rhetoric and policies, coming out of City Hall.

AFP Washington State Director Heather Andrews -
"Your seeing real businnes leaders leaving the state... a wide varitry of businesses are saying enough is enough."
"Over 100,000 individuals, taxpayers, and residents signed in opposition [to the income tax], which is a record. Lawmakers signed the bill anyway...
That's not leadership, that's defiance.
It's not a failure of Democracy; it's a failure to listen to it."
Americans for Prosperity criticizes Olympia Democrats for choosing to ignore constituents and passing the income tax, which they say is now contributing to an "exodus" of investors and businesses out of Washington state.
(By the way, did the WA Secretary of State ever figure out who was manipulating the sign ins?...Rhetorical question)

Washington's new income tax is the final straw for Jon Bodwell, owner of Delta Camshaft.
Jon is the 2nd generation owner of this camshaft modification shop that has been in Tacoma for 48 years, but is selling the (graffiti covered) building and moving everything to Arizona. He cites "crime, taxes, and business climate" as reasons he is leaving, and frankly who can blame him?
If a business cannot make a profit in Washington state or has to deal with a hostile government, they are going to go where the grass is greener. Basic economics, which Progressive Democrats are trying to ignore.

'Business owner makes tough decision to leave Washington after 48 years'
252 Starbucks corporate jobs are being cut as the company shifts operations.
Jobs don’t just disappear, they move to where the policies make sense. If we want to keep opportunity here, we need a business climate that actually supports it.

Seattle's housing market is going through a historic inventory shock.
There are now 8,630 listings across the Seattle metro as of Apr 2026.
In a normal April, there are only 4,600 listings.
Meaning inventory today is 88% above normal.
This is happening due to layoffs, a historic lack of affordability, and increased outbound migration.
Ultimately, good news for local Seattle buyers. For the first time in a decade, you have control over this market.
Expect prices to fall in the next year, potentially by a lot in certain ZIP codes.

Washington has surpassed Hawaii for the 2nd highest gas prices in the nation.
Washington's roads are not being maintained. The ferry system is failing. Once again, taxpayers are paying more than their fair share but state government is wasting the money. #waleg

Washington used to be one of the most competitive states and led to a booming economy with high employment across all classes.
Now, Washington State is one of the worst. We are led by people who are consumed by growing government bureaucracy and controlling every facet of our lives. And nothing improves. Schools, crime, energy, roads, and affordability are the worst ever. And it's all because of Olympia.
Costs in Washington are about 7% above the national average—putting pressure on families and small businesses.
We need policies that make living and working here more affordable.
People and wealth are leaving Washington.
From 2022–2023, the state lost ~$500M in income, while Idaho gained over $1B from new residents. According to Mountain States Policy Center, this reflects a large shift in where opportunity is growing.

On this Gas Price Friday...
Some not terrible news as gas prices here and nationwide appear to be leveling out. Even better; Washington's gas price difference has stopped outpacing the National Average, and only went up 6 cents the last week.
Unfortunately for Washingtonians, Governor Ferguson has so far ignored calls to suspend our state's gas and climate taxes currently adding over a dollar per gallon.
Gasoline
Washington Average: $5.36
National Average: $4.08
Difference: $1.26 per gal
WA Taxes
Gas Tax: $0.55
Climate Tax: $0.52
Total: $1.07 per gal

This is insane
Seattle downtown office space is 35.6% vacant. Democrats have wiped out businesses
Glenn Beck “Seattle is insane and it's full of insane people. Nearly one-third of the office space is empty, 35% at the core. More than a quarter of all of the office space all across the city is vacant
Entire buildings are dark at noon. Elevators that carried thousands of engineers and lawyers and designers and now move janitors and security guards through hollow floors where the lights never come on.
This is policy that is doing this and the response from the city leadership shows something that is far more than incompetence. It is intentional destruction.”
“They just passed a new tax in Seattle. You make over a million dollars. You get an extra 9.9% extra tax. They don't have any understanding of how an economy works”
Today we honor Thomas Edison – a pioneer whose inventions lit the world.
“When you’ve exhausted all possibilities, remember – you haven’t.”
FINAL days to submit before our April launch. Make your voice count:

AFP-WA was in DC this week pushing solutions to the affordability crisis. Rising costs aren’t from a lack of effort, they’re driven by barriers that limit supply and raise prices.
Cut red tape. Expand opportunity.
