The city’s Department of Education has suddenly begun a “get-tough” policy refusing medical accommodations for teachers with serious illnesses, including those recovering from cancer or from organ transplants.

A licensed clinician at the UFT Member Assistance Program's careline can provide you with referrals, resources and services when you need support. The careline will open Monday, Sept. 13 and is available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The arbitration finding does not resolve the underlying issue of whether the city has the legal authority to issue such a mandate for teachers and other city workers. The question of the city’s legal authority can only be resolved by the courts.
