Six years ago today, we lost an amazing man.
He was funny, humble, kind, selfless.
He loved mountain biking, running in the rain, singing (badly), and chocolate. Oh, how he loved his chocolate. 1/
He was a husband, father, son, brother, friend, outstanding leader.
He died 12 years ago yesterday leading 2RCHA, the regiment he so loved.
He made the world a brighter, funnier place.
And us better people for having known him.
Tell his story.
Remember Dan.
@DavidGrebstad Thanks my friend. He sure was all of those things; I’d also add outstanding father and husband to that list. It seems surreal it’s been 12 years. Honestly struggling to wrap my head around that. In some ways it still feels like yesterday.
@kinsellawarren When my husband was killed in service, @stephenharper was away. When he got back, he called to speak to me and our 3 kids. We spoke for a long time. He was compassionate, genuine, empathetic. He made space for our grief. I’ll never forget his kindness.

@kinsellawarren@Bell@CNN After Dan died, I went to Bell in Petawawa with his death certificate and will to transfer the phone into my name. They told me they couldn’t do it until they called him for his permission. Apparently dead has a different meaning to Bell.
Congratulations to the Assistant Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Rossa Mulcahy on his appointment as the next Chief of Staff of the Irish Defence Forces.
Brigadier General Mulcahy has over 39 years of experience across a variety of roles both at home and overseas, where he has served on United Nations and NATO missions. He was appointed as the Assistant Chief of Staff in 2021 and his dedication, service and commitment to the Defence Forces makes him an outstanding choice to lead the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.
Brigadier General Mulcahy will take up the appointment of Chief of Staff on the 1st June 2025.
With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away. I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film. Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived.
Please take an extra moment to think of the families they left behind.
They carry their loss with them forever.
Their lives will never be the same.
For them, every day is Remembrance

@KellyS_Thompson Happy Birthday Kelly! I know it’s bittersweet (I’ve felt the same way about my birthday since Dan died), but I also know Meghan would be so so proud of you!
@KevMVickers He surely was. My late husband Dan was Jeff’s Battery Commander in Afghanistan when Jeff was killed. He said it was the worst day of his career. I know he still carried his grief over Jeff’s death when he himself was killed 7 years later.
Sixteen years today.
Jeff was a husband, father, son, brother, friend.
An unlikely soldier, he wanted to make the world a better place.
Born on Remembrance Day, he is remembered and missed by so many.
Today, please spare a moment to remember Captain Jeff Francis.
